South China Sea – Day 8

What a peaceful day at sea! We enjoyed a leisurely morning as the ship cruised through the South China Sea, making its way back to Hong Kong. We intended to have breakfast on our balcony, but as the winds picked up, we decided to move back to our cabin for a delightful breakfast in bed.

Lunch was at Sichuan Red, a specialty restaurant focused on the Sichuan cuisine of China. The food was delicious, but it was a bit too spicy for our taste.

Sichuan cuisine is known for its bold flavors and distinctive spiciness. Here are some common ingredients that contribute to its heat:

1. Sichuan Peppercorns: These create a unique numbing sensation and a citrusy flavor.
2. Dried Red Chilies: Often used whole or ground, they add significant heat.
3. Chili Oil: Made with infused oil and red chilies, it adds both spice and richness.
4. Fermented Black Beans: These add depth and umami, along with some heat.
5. Chili Paste/Sauce: Often made with a blend of chilies, garlic, and spices, it intensifies the heat.
6. Hot Mustard: Sometimes used in dipping sauces for an extra kick.

These ingredients work together to create Sichuan cuisine’s signature spicy and complex profile!

The highlight of the day was experiencing the iFly flight simulator on Deck 16 of the ship. This thrilling attraction lets you feel the sensation of a free-fall as you soar through the air in a safe and controlled environment. With state-of-the-art technology, the simulator creates an exhilarating experience. Whether you’re trying to master your sky diving skills or just looking for some fun, the iFly is an unforgettable adventure on the ship!

Before we took to the wind, we had a safety briefing. This included instructions on body positioning and hand signals to communicate with the instructor during the flight.

We were fitted with a jumpsuit, helmet, and goggles. The gear is designed to be comfortable, ensuring you can focus on the flying experience.

The wind speed in the tunnel can be adjusted to suit different skill levels, from beginners to more experienced flyers. The iFly experience was truly a unique adventure. It’s perfect for thrill-seekers and those looking to try something new.

On our next leg to Japan, we booked the North Star which is a glass-enclosed observation capsule that takes you high above the ship for panoramic views.

Stay tuned for more adventures on the Spectrum of the Seas!
