Old and New San Juan

Highlights

• We saw the city’s main entrance, where both Colonizadores, or settlers, and pirates used to dock when the Old City was completely fortified.
• Next stop was the Cementerio Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi, dating back to 1863, where many natives have been laid to rest.
• Following a full panoramic view of Castillo San Cristóbal and Castillo San Felipe del Morro, two of the biggest fortifications in the New World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982.
• We drove down to the Paseo de la Princesa, the famous pedestrian promenade with a bronze statue depicting San Juan’s local heritage.
• Then continued to the El Capitolio and Paseo de los Presidentes, where you can see the impressive government building and statues of some US presidents.
• Next, we went to the upscale neighborhood of el Condado and stopped at the Ventana al Mar for a break and views of the Atlantic Ocean.
• Lastly, we rode through the beachfront neighborhood of Isla Verde, the heart of the city, with chic resorts meeting the beautiful white sands.

We had time for lunch at La Casita de los Rones in Old San Juan before heading back to the ship. Lunch was a real treat at La Casita de los Rones which is known for its vibrant atmosphere and focus on rum-based experiences. It combines a bar, restaurant, and shop, celebrating Puerto Rican rum culture.
