Tyrrhenian Sea – Cruise Day 8

What a wonderful day at sea as we cruised up the stunning Italian coastline toward our next destination — beautiful Portofino. For a sea day, it was surprisingly action-packed from start to finish!

Our morning began with a special 9:00 a.m. invitation to an exclusive backstage theater tour. This behind-the-scenes look at the onboard productions was fascinating and certainly did not disappoint. We got an up-close look at the incredible costumes, dazzling shoes, stage sets, and all the hidden workings that bring the nightly performances to life. Standing on stage and looking out into the theater from the performers’ perspective gave us a whole new appreciation for the shows.

After the tour, we headed to the Oceanview Café for breakfast before making our way to a matinee performance in the theater featuring iconic songs from decades past accompanied by a full live orchestra. It was absolutely wonderful and such a treat to experience at sea.

Later in the afternoon, we met up with friends who introduced us to a card game called Wizard. They patiently taught us how to play, and before long we were completely hooked! Safe to say, a deck of Wizard cards will be arriving from Amazon shortly after we get home.

The fun continued into the evening as we joined the same friends for dinner at the specialty restaurant, Le Petit Chef. This was unlike any dining experience we’ve ever had — a creative and interactive four-course meal where animated projections transformed the table into part of the show. It was truly a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

Still not done for the day, we headed off to the evening production show featuring high-energy Irish music — more Irish than Erin itself! By the end of the night, after so much excitement packed into one day, we were completely exhausted and happily called it a night.

Tomorrow… Portofino!
