Today, June 4, 2006, we explored one of Italy’s most famous and fascinating archaeological sites—the once-thriving Roman city of Pompeii, brought to life again after being buried by Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
As we walked through this extraordinary place, we discovered how Pompeii was preserved for centuries beneath layers of ash and pumice, only to be revealed through remarkable excavations.
We stepped onto ancient paved streets and wandered among temples, public buildings, baths, and private villas adorned with stunning frescoes and mosaics. Along the way, we encountered artifacts and hauntingly powerful reminders of the past, offering us a vivid glimpse into daily life as it existed more than 2,000 years ago.
